Arcomagno is a natural sea arch on the Calabrian Tyrrhenian coast, part of the Riviera dei Cedri and the Gulf of Policastro. The arch spans approximately 50 metres and was carved over millennia by wave erosion into the dramatic red coastal cliffs. Inside the arch sits a hidden crescent-shaped lagoon — originally known as the Grotta d’u Saracinu — roughly 25 metres across, with extraordinarily clear water.
It is classified as a geosito of national interest by ISPRA (Italy’s environmental institute), and is managed as a protected site by the non-profit Pro Loco San Nicola Arcella. In 2025 it received 95,000 visitors. Access is regulated to protect the site and ensure every visitor gets to experience it properly.
30-minute rule: The time limit applies only to the beach inside the arch. The walking trails to reach it are not counted — and they are a beautiful experience in themselves.
Tickets & Tour Pricing
Arcomagno is a regulated site. Beach access requires an official ticket from the Pro Loco. Boat tours from neighbouring beaches let you see the arch from the sea (you cannot land inside it). Here are the verified prices for the 2026 season.
Beach Access Ticket
The only way to step onto the beach inside the arch. Includes the dedicated free shuttle from “Sotto Viadotto” municipal parking to Marinella beach (parking fee not included).
Boat & Excursion Tours
You cannot land at Arcomagno from the water — passing under the arch by boat is forbidden. But several local operators run sea tours that let you see the arch and the surrounding coastline from the Tyrrhenian.
Note: Boat-tour prices vary seasonally and by operator. Always confirm the current price and departure schedule directly with the operator at booking. Lilja’s Flat guests — we’re happy to recommend trusted local operators based on the season and your group size.
Booking the beach ticket: The official Pro Loco shop is the only authorised channel. Beware of third-party listings showing inflated prices. The direct link is arcomagnocalabria.it/acquista-biglietto-arcomagno.
Getting There — Two Entrances
There are two access points. Both have parking alongside restaurants where you can eat before or after your visit. Toilets are available at both ends.
You can enter from one side and exit from the other. If you exit from the opposite side and want to re-enter, you need a new ticket.
Staying at Lilja’s Flat? The south entrance from the San Nicola Arcella side is the closest to us: about a 5-minute drive to the beach parking, then a short walk down to the arch. Ask us and we will point you to the exact parking spot by the restaurants.
Nearest airports
Lamezia Terme (SUF) is the most convenient, between 90 minutes and 2 hours by car, depending on traffic. A car is essential — there is no reliable public transport to Arcomagno.
Rules & What to Know
Arcomagno is a protected natural site. These rules are strictly enforced to preserve the environment and ensure a good experience for all visitors.
Why no swimming under the arch? Rocks can fall from the arch above, and the controlled access system would be impossible to maintain if people could enter freely from the sea. The official site is clear: passing under the arch by water is forbidden and carries a criminal penalty.
The Walking Trails
The journey to Arcomagno is part of the experience. There are two official trails managed by the Pro Loco:
Sentiero dai Mille Colori (Trail of a Thousand Colours) — a scenic route showcasing the varied geology and colours of the Calabrian cliffs along the coast.
Sentiero dell’Arco di Enea (Trail of the Arch of Aeneas) — the main approach trail leading directly to the arch. The name references the ancient legend that Aeneas passed through this coastline on his voyage.
Both trails are natural and intentionally unmodified — wear shoes with grip. The paths are the reason to slow down and take your time. See trail details at arcomagnocalabria.it →

What to Eat & Drink Nearby
Restaurants and bars are located at both entrances, in the car parks on the north (Praia a Mare) and south (San Nicola Arcella) sides. You cannot bring food into the arch area, so eat before or after at the restaurants by the parking.
Back in San Nicola Arcella village, Scale is our top recommendation for dinner — fresh local fish, Calabrian cuisine. Praia de Mare beach bar on the seafront is the perfect spot for aperitivo after the beach.
